The money you’ll spend on a suggested donation for the classes at West Town is a fraction of what most repairs/parts cost at any new bike shop in the city. And that information will stay with you for as long as you care to retain it. Keep in mind that this is not a bike shop though. You cannot buy parts or bikes here. Also the youth programming involved with West Town deserves to be acknowledged. A truly great and original non for profit in Chicago.
I took a wheel-building class at West Town over the summer. It was two Saturday evenings for four hours each. At the end, I had a new set of wheels (that have yet to cause me a single problem), plus a much better understanding of how wheels function structurally.
